About Medschool
School of Medical Sciences, MedSchool
The School of Medical Sciences, MedSchool, was established September 1st, 2012.
The MedSchool covers both BSc and MSc programmes as well as Master’s programmes (under a continuing education scheme).
The purpose of the MedSchool is to strengthen the programmes’ links to Faculty Management and to co-ordinate the programmes listed under Education.
The MedSchool acts as a forum for dialogue and as an important resource for the educational work of the boards of studies and departments.
In context of the merger between the Faculty of Health Sciences, the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences and the Faculty of Life Sciences the Board of the University of Copenhagen decided on 15 December 2011 to establish educational councils in the new Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, including the Educational Council for the School of Medical Sciences, MedSchool.
For information on the study programmes under Medschool, see Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences.
The Educational council for Medschool aims to strengthen dialogue, knowledge sharing and coordination within educational topics between the study programmes represented. The Council processes and coordinates educational issues, taking into account strategic, educational and resource considerations. The Educational council is advisory and ensures communication between heads of department, heads of studies, chairs of study boards, course organisers, exam organisers and students.
The School of Medical Sciences, MedSchool, consists of the heads of the departments that provide the majority of teaching to the programmes, the heads of studies (or the chair of the boards of studies, where the head of studies is not responsible for the task) and the vice-chair of the boards of studies (students) of each study programme in the MedSchool.
The Educational Council of the MedSchool is headed by a school director appointed by the Dean for a three-year term of service. The school director must be a full-time academic member of staff (VIP), head of department or associate dean. The school director reports to the Dean or to the Associate Dean for Education (if responsibility is delegated by the Dean).
The school director is responsible for ensuring that the Educational Council fulfills its remit.
The educational councils of the five schools have established an effective collaboration in relation to tasks and functions that go across educational areas. The five educational councils collectively cover all study programs offered by the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences. You can find information about the four other educational councils here:
The Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences strive to provide relevant and up to date study programmes of high quality, and the study programmes represented under Medschool are part of this.
The Faculty has a number of initiatives and activities contributing to ensure the academic content of the programmes, inclusion of researched-based instruction and work continuously to ensure a motivating study environment and teaching, which also include evaluation of tuition and graduate surveys.
